Specialist Nurse (Travel and Immunisations)

Jane trained as a nurse at St George's Hospital in London, qualifying in 1976. She undertook a post registration course in neurology and then completed midwifery, before pursuing a busy career in hospital medicine. She became a Practice Nurse in 1990, when her interest in travel medicine first began.

Jane graduated MSc travel medicine in 1998 and, being in the inauguaral cohort, was the first nurse in England to obtain this qualification. Since then she has specialised within the field of travel medicine and spends much of her week working independently, teaching and writing in journals on the subject, including publication of a book she co authored, entitled ‘The Atlas of Travel Medicine and Health’.

Over the past few years she has been a founder Council member of the British Travel Health Association, Chair of the Royal College of Nursing Travel Health Forum from 2000 - 2006, and is an Honorary Lecturer at the Academic Centre for Travel Medicine and Vaccines at the Royal Free & University College Medical School in London.  In July 2006 Jane was admitted as a Founder Fellow of the Faculty of Travel Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow.  As a leading nurse in her field in the UK, Jane is passionate about her subject and really enjoys looking after patients she sees at the Village Medical Centre for travel advice and also childhood immunisations.
