Pocket Vision - How do we access patient records while doing a home visit? |
| |
 |
From day one we always had the idea that we should be able to see a patient in their own home and have access to their medical record without the need to have stacks of paper.
The use of a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) pictured left has helped us in achieving our goal. |
| |
The PDA offers a familiar looking screen, with easy to navigate menu's.
The practice has chosen to use the Hewlett Packard h6300 series which also incorporates a mobile phone and GSM/GPRS access to the internet. |
 |
| |
 |
The clinical system InPS Vision 3 has a pocket version available which on a daily basis is updated from the central database and synchronised with the PDA each time it is placed in it's cradle.
From the Windows® start menu the user will select Pocket Vision |
| |
This opens the login screen, where the user is prompted to select their name and enter their current Vision password.
The user is then asked to press the OK button to then be taken to the full program.
|
 |
| |
 |
From here the user is prompted to find the patient, much the same as you would with the desktop version.
However, the pocket version is lacking in functionality and has a few limitations, but these do not present too much of a problem. |
| |
Patients are selected by surname.
The PDA has a small but effective keyboard which the user taps on with a special ink less pen.
The database then begins to narrow your search as you type to leave only those patients who match your entry.
The use can select before they have finished typing the patients surname if it is available on screen. |
 |
| |
 |
The user has to select the clinic type before they can continue to the main entry and history screens.
The list of clinic types is as extensive as the ones available on the desktop system, allowing the PDA to be used as a backup device in case there is a problem with the main server and your systems are unavailable. |
| |
The user is presented with a screen which allows you to view and add entries to the patients History, Therapy and Received Test Results.
Other personal information is available on screen.
Once the clinician has returned to the practice they will place the PDA back into the docking station and run the synchronisation program which will upload the latest entries back onto the central system. |
